Environmental Pest Management, Inc. (EPM) was founded in 1974 and has been providing expert pest management services for over 50 years. The company is a family-owned business, led by owner Jeff Rice, and is accredited by the Pennsylvania Pest Management Association and the National Pest Management Association. EPM has been voted the gold ribbon winner for the best pest control company in Indiana County by both the Indiana Gazette readers and the Best of Indiana County voters for multiple years running. In 2023 EPM relocated their offices and warehouse to their new facility at 262 Airport Rd, Indiana, PA.

1974

Founded

A Long History In Indiana, PA

Environmental Pest Management, Inc. was started by Jim Rice in 1974, as Rice Exterminating Company. Through the years, with the advancement of technology, training, and environmental, health and safety concerns, exterminators have evolved into Pest Management Professionals. In 2000, the company incorporated the business and changed its name to Environmental Pest Management, Inc (formerly Environmental Pest Control). In 2002, Jim's son, Jeff, joined the business full-time after graduating from IUP with a degree in business management.

2016 & 2017

Growth

Associate Certified Entomologist

In 2016, Jeff Rice received the nationally-recognized distinction of being an Associate Certified Entomologist. In 2017, Jeff Rice became the new owner of Environmental Pest Management, Inc., succeeding his father, Jim, as the second-generation owner of the family-operated business. Jim fully retired in 2018 and still occasionally stops in the office to see what is new and to check in on customers.

2021

Expansion

Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators

In 2021, Jeff Rice and Josh Barber attained their permitting from the Pennsylvania Game Commission as Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators. After extensive studies and an exam on the biology, life history, and habits of pertinent wildlife, control methods, euthanasia, laws and regulations, and diseases and parasites, the certified agents now allow the company to provide select wildlife control services to their customers in the Indiana area. This includes, but is not limited to: Squirrels, Opossums, Chipmunks, Skunks, Groundhogs, Moles, Raccoons, Birds, and others

2023

New Facility

New Location, Same Great Service

In 2023, after years of continued growth, EPM moved from its long-time location in Indiana Borough to its new location at 262 Airport Rd., Indiana, PA, right next to the Jimmy Stewart Airport. This move provided the business with dedicated office and warehouse space to better serve their customers. It also offers plenty of additional parking and an accessible lobby for their customers.

Meet Our Team

Owner

Jeff Rice, ACE

Jeff joined the family business in 2002 after graduating from IUP. He has taken over as owner of the business and has attained the nationally-recognized distinction of being an Associate Certified Entomologist. Jeff also holds a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator permit issued by the PA Game Commission. A life-long resident of Indiana, he takes pride in his ability to provide outstanding service and maintain his reputation as the “go to guy” for pest control in Indiana. Josh Barber

Josh was born and raised in Indiana, graduated from IUP, and currently resides in Indiana Borough. Josh has been with the company since 2016, and is known for his organization and attention to detail. He is also licensed by the state of Pennsylvania as a Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator. Josh also holds a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator permit issued by the PA Game Commission.

Nichole Rice

Nichole is Jeff’s wife and mother of their 3 beautiful children. She is a graduate of IUP and brings to EPM almost 20 years of office experience.

Diane McCombie

Diane is a long-time resident of Indiana, and brings to EPM over 30 years of office experience. Her friendly voice and jovial personality make her a great asset to the company. Diane is Nichole’s mother, and currently resides in Indiana with her husband and their dog Maggie.

Dave Johnston

Dave was born and raised in Indiana, PA, attended Indiana Senior High, and graduated from Clarion University. He joins EPM after a long career as an accountant at a local financial institution. He is very detailed, organized, and approaches every job with care. He has made a great addition to our team. Dave is an award-winning cross-stitch artist and resides in Indiana with his long-time partner and their dog.

Steve Leydic

Steve is from the Rural Valley area, went to Marion Center High School and has joined EPM most recently from the oil and gas industry. He brings a great attitude, is dependable, and has a great sense of humor. He is a welcomed addition to EPM. Steve enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family and his dogs.
